Upcoming Changes for Working Holiday Makers( UK passport holders)

Immigration Updates on Australia- UK Free Trade Agreement- 2 June 2023

The world is on the move once more, and we are always excited to bring you the news that makes borders less of a barrier and more of an invitation. As you may already be aware,  the Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement came into force on Wednesday, 31 May. We aim to outline the opportunities available for businesses planning to employ UK passport holders,  as well as for individuals who have been contemplating whether Down Under should be your next move!

Upcoming Changes for Working Holiday Makers

  • from 1 July 2023, UK passport holders can apply for a Working Holiday visa between the ages of 18 and 35 years inclusive ( up from 30 years previously)

  • from 1 July 2024, UK passport holders can be granted up to three separate Working Holiday visas without having to meet any specified work requirements. ( regional work requirements removed)

The new arrangements will apply to all Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa applications for UK passport holders lodged from the date of implementation.

How the change can significantly benefit Australian businesses

The increased age limit to 35 years is a welcome change for Australian employers to tap into the expanded talent pool of  UK skilled workers. The age group of 31-35, often referred to as mid-career professionals, typically possess a higher level of professional experience, thus broadening the range of skills available to employers.

The removal of the regional work criteria presents opportunities for UK working holiday makers to advance their professional careers in Australia. This relaxation of the visa condition provides certainty to both businesses and skilled workers regarding ongoing employment opportunities and makes international recruitment more accessible.

The pathways to global mobility within the skilled workforce have never been more promising. Duet Immigration is committed to helping businesses, and skilled individuals seize these opportunities.  If you would like to discuss the changes,  please reach out to our team.
